Recently, David and I have had the highest honor and privilege of taking our daughter, Remi, around the state of Texas to visit colleges. I say that it is the “highest honor and privilege” because nothing makes you feel quite like Queen Elizabeth more than riding three hours in a car with two teenagers fighting over one phone charger and belching up Arby’s. It’s been a
University of Kentucky (Go Big Blue!) is a fine school. It's beautiful campus in the heart of the Bluegrass and Horse Capitol of the World, and she could visit her Aunt Holly from time to time. I'm a mere 45 minutes away. Just sayin'.
My oldest son graduated in 2017 at the age of 47. I know, I know. He couldn't decide what he wanted to be when he grew up. Better late than never I always say.
Two sons went to Liberty. The you vest wanted something different and went to Grand Canyon University in Phoenix and loved it. It’s just hard no matter where they go but you’ll do great! In time...
All 3 of my children attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. 9 hours from home. I hated that they were so far away, but at the same time I was happy they were exactly where they wanted to be. I had to learn to hold both feelings at the same time. Praying for her decision and your heart.
I swear to you, I didn't know your daughter is just like my class of 2025 daughter. Mine wants to study Psychology and eventually go to law school. We're in Colorado (but originally from TX) and all their life my husband has brainwashed my girls that UT is the best (where he went) and Baylor is the worst (where I went). We started our college search early because she knows she wants out of CO, so last spring break we toured Univ of KY, UT-Knoxville (the other UT), and Vanderbilt. UTK shot to the top of her list. The whole family was very impressed with UTK. Then this past summer we toured TX A&M and Baylor, and I tried to only squeal internally when she said Baylor is now 2nd on her list. (We've already seen enough of UT-Austin via swim camps and crossed it off the list.) The search will continue this upcoming spring break but we're not sure which direction we'll head. I'd like to look at Montana State but she wants a school in the south. Maybe we'll head to Auburn or UNC? Hard to fit in those faraway schools in a week-long roadtrip. Best of luck in your search, but I find it comforting that you're facing a similar dilemma as our family. I know I'm not ready yet!!!
My daughter went to Baylor and loved it! She then got her master's at UT Austin. Our son went to A&M and slowly decided that school was not for him. :(
Our baby child is enjoying Sam Houston State. Very safe despite the prisoners two blocks from his dorm!!! He likes his professors, several great ministries on campus. He plays on the Rugby team.
Also, they have a body farm criminal justice majors can go check out! (I got to tour years ago….creepy and interesting!!!)
Check out ETBU in Marshall!! She won’t be disappointed. Cheer, football, baseball, hockey, tight community, gorgeous campus, close enough to come home, and so much more, including me, your biggest Belmont alum groupie!🤗
My daughter went to Texas Wesleyan in Ft. Worth (she got free tuition because her dad was teaching there). She just started her masters program at UT Arlington. We have friends whose sons went to TCU and loved it.
Vanderbilt won’t be cheap, either. But it’s a good school. Maybe she could look at Lipscomb while you’re in town. Ya know, Dolly was supposed to be there today…
Oh, Lord, girl I feel you on this one!! My first of three went all the way to The University of Wisconsin - Madison...and we live in Arkansas!!! It was a 12-hour drive or a very expensive flight between two smallish airports. I thought I'd die the first year she was gone and the year leading up to her leaving, but we all survived...and you will, too. You have taught your beautiful Remi all the things and for the few she may forget, you'll be there to help pick her up when she stumbles. Enjoy!! I'll be praying for ya :)
Clemson South Carolina would love to have sweet Remi join their student body. It is closer than Florida!
