I am asked this question all the time. Like, all. the. time.
What is it you’re doing, Melissa?
What have you found that works, Melissa?
What diet are you on, Melissa?
Are you still doing the Chikfila diet, Melissa?
(I’m kidding about the Chikfila diet, y’all. But if that is a thing, CALL ME!)
So, let me ask you: What is it you’re doing?
And how’s it going for you?
Have you found a new workout you absolutely love? Tell me about it. (I hear walking is good, but I’m not a fan of standing up.)
Is there a book that has rocked your world recently in the area of health and weight loss? Tellllllll me!
Have you come across a great podcast that is helping you on this journey? I’m all ears.
What’s your new go-to recipe that makes you feel full and happy and your family will actually eat? I gots to have it!
What snack fills you up without making you hangry? Spill it.
That’s one of the things that I love so dang much about Stretch Marks, is that it really has become a community of like-minded people. We all seem to be on a mission to find our healthier self and I love that we are all doing it together. But sometimes it’s nice to do a check in with everyone. Heck, some of the best advice I’ve ever been given has come from friends who are traveling – or have already traveled – the same road. We need each other! I guess you could be a loner…but why?
So for this week: Talk to me. Talk to each other. Share what’s helping you, what’s hurting you and what’s keeping you going.
At our church we always say, “We weren’t meant to do life alone.” I believe that. I’m actually a huge believer in that. We weren’t meant to learn, grow, fall, get up, struggle, try again, win or lose, all by ourselves. We were made for community. I read a quote the other day that said:
“THE POWER OF COMMUNITY TO CREATE HEALTH
IS FAR GREATER THAN ANY PHYSICIAN, CLINIC OR HOSPITAL.”
– Mark Hyman
Isn’t that powerful?
What we have here, in these articles, in your comments, is…health. It’s literally, life. Who knew that what we needed all along? Was each other.
Here’s to you, my lovelies!
Melissa
I’m 3 weeks shy of turning 70 and been overweight my entire life. Probably Gained and lost 10,000 pounds or more in the last 60 years. I’ve tried everything at least once except surgery. The only thing that has truly worked for me is putting less food in my mouth, eating healthy and tracking my weight. My highest weight has been 286 and this morning I weighed 221. 17# gone since 1/1/22. Slow and easy and it stays off. My head ( at 70) is finally in the right place and I’m praying it stays there.
I’ve had a brain surgery, tumor removed, so there’s no exercise for me. It’s all in what I choose to put in my mouth. Plain and simple. I’m so sad it took me all these years to figure it out. Listen to this old lady and do what works for you BUT DO IT NOW.
I have a VERY unhealthy relationship with food. If I am sad? I eat! If I am happy and want to celebrate? I eat! My life has revolved around food my entire life. I have tried every diet under the sun and just gained every pound back. I started NOOM at the beginning of February and it has been a life changer! It has taught me so much about how to eat without restricting a certain food group. They have daily lessons you take which has really helped with my food addiction. I am not all the way there yet but it has been the only "diet" so far that I can see as sustainable. I love it!
