Books and Shows and Toothpaste that Glows!
Did I tell you all what Remi Radke asked for, for graduation? A trip? A watch? A set of luggage? Nooooooo. Veneers. The child has asked for V-E-N-E-E-R-S. I told her we would get her that right after I get chin lipo, so not to hold her breath. I will admit that Remi has always been insecure about her teeth. The smallness, the not-so-straightness, the color. Wanna know what I’m doing to help Remi out? Well, after trying every whitening agent that TikTok Shop had to offer, we are getting down to business. I’m not putting one dollar toward veneers until we have tried it all and so I sprang for the Lumineux and let me tell you: so far soooooo good. Oh my goodness, this book. I loved every minute of this joyful, feel-good, tearjerker, heart-lifter of a book. I didn’t even realize that the generation that people my age are currently in was known as the “sandwich” generation. Where we are still raising adult children, while also caring for aging parents. Did you know this? Sandwich is a feel good story about a family of four that vacations to the same spot every single summer, bringing with them emotions, secrets, memories and changes. You will love every character. And whether or not you agree with everything they do, it won’t matter, because you will still find yourself throughout the pages. Or maybe that was just me. Y’all know I love a good mystery. Especially one that I never saw coming. This is not a scary book. It is simply a edge of your seat roller-coaster ride from start to finish. I had heard so many good things about it on BookTok and it really did not disappoint. If you like one that has more than one twist, then this is the fast-paced fun read you are looking for.
I am currently reading this book right now, so I really cannot give you an adequate recommendation. All I can say is it must be good because look at the awards it won: Los Angeles Times Book Prize Winner, New York Times Notable Book, Locus Award Finalist, Winner of the Bram Stoker Award and the Shirley Jackson Award. Listed on Amazon as the #1 Best Seller in Black African American Horror Fiction, which seems like a pretty narrow niche if you ask me. It is really unlike anything I have ever read before. Amazon says: A gripping, page-turning “masterpiece” (Joe Hill, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Fireman) set in Jim Crow Florida that follows Robert Stephens Jr. as he’s sent to a segregated reform school that is a chamber of terrors where he sees the horrors of racism and injustice, for the living, and the dead.
Maybe y’all need to let me finish it first, but as of now, it is beautiful, ghastly, imaginative, creative and terrifying. What have I gotten myself into?
Don’t look up any reviews on Reacher. They will tell you that he is dumb and he cannot kick a car and cause the airbag to explode in a persons face, BUT YES HE CAN, Y’ALL!! I saw a reviewer say the other day that Reacher knows its lane and runs in it and he is 100% correct. Reacher is good, clean fun. He is big, he is silent and he is deadly and I love every minute of it. I mean, don’t get me wrong; for every Reacher episode I watch I follow it up with an hour of Sense and Sensibility or something of the like, but I regret nothing. You can watch Season 3 right now on Amazon Prime.
