Spring In Review
It’s been a while since I’ve made this list of what I’ve watched, what I’ve read and what I’ve loved, so you might think I have some real catching up to do.
You might think there’s no possible way Melissa could really think back that far and remember all the highlights of the spring.
You might think that I live such a whirlwind life that I see too much, read too much, sip too many daiquiris by the pool.
But you’d be wrong.
Do you remember anything at all from May? When our kids were graduating and we were attending awards days and going to graduation parties? Do you remember anything at all from that month? Me neither. So we won’t even be discussing it.
And April? Was there an April this year? I don’t remember it. Maybe it got left off the calendar. Maybe I slept through it. Who knows, but April is dead to me and it’s gonna stay that way.
So really what we have here is a review about June. The problem is I had a hemorrhoid surgery in June so I was dead to the world from June 12-25. I don’t remember anything during those two weeks except worrying that my Hydrocodone prescription would run out.
So essentially what we have here is a review about June 1-11 and then the last five days in June. We will be reviewing the 16 days in June that are not a complete blur. This should be fun. And short!
If you are looking for your first great beach read of the summer, this is it! I’ve never read Lisa Scottoline before and I’m so glad I found her by grabbing this book. When I tell you this book is already going full speed ahead by page three, I’m not kidding. I’ve recommended it to soooo many already and not one of them has come back and said anything other than “I loved it!” It is a thriller. No romance, no horror, just a good old fast paced thriller about a family who ends up in witness protection and loses everything - overnight.
Since everyone and their dog has seen Top Gun: Maverick I won’t bore you with how American and feel-good that movie is. But it is! Instead, I will offer you a more laid back movie for that particular week in the summer when your parents come to visit you and you want to watch a movie but you need it to be sweet and funny and clean and nothing that has domestic terrorism, rape, meth dealing or teen sex in it.
Jerry and Marge Go Large, on Paramount Plus, is perfect! David and I loved it. Sometimes it’s okay to want to watch a movie that doesn’t make you want to repent afterwards. This sweet movie about a man (Bryan Cranston) who retires and doesn’t know what to do with himself, until he finds a loophole in the Massachusetts lottery, is exactly what you’re looking for.
Allow me to introduce you to the cake that my father and my husband and my son all fell in love with in one fell swoop. It’s not to say the women in my family didn’t love it, but the men raaaaaved over it and fought for thirds. It is a summer delight and even though you’ve probably made it a thousand times, it was new to me. So, when I made it for David and my dad for Father’s Day I had no idea how much everyone at the lunch would love it. Thanks to the recipe blog of Love Bakes Good Cakes for posting about it. I used her recipe. It is gooey, delicious, summertime in a bowl. You can find the recipe here.
*I had trouble finding coconut cream pudding so I used banana cream pudding, which tended to give it a little pina colada taste for some reason. Yum!
Thank you, I always love your suggestions and this blog, it is the best thing I read.
Girl! I can do understand praying that the pain pill prescription doesn't ruin out! I also had to have colorectal surgery in May. They had to remove 3 cancerous polyups, 1 internal hemorrhoid and 2 external hemorrhoids! That month is a total blurr... well all except for having to go back into surgery due to complications from the first one. Ugh!
