I never promised you a rose garden. But I did promise you a picture of my “big wall.”
If you are new to our little community then you may not know what it is exactly I am talking about, so here goes…This past summer we decided to paint and do some redecorating to our living room and kitchen area. I have never lived in a house WHILE re-construction is going on, but I have given birth – and they are both, equally, as painful.
One of the areas of concern for me was a really big wall that I have in my dining room. (Also a “dining room” is for fancy people, we have a kitchen with a table in it. We are rednecks and it is well with our soul.) When we first moved in the house this wall had beadboard all the way around it, so it didn’t feel like this big, massive wall that needed to be decorated. But one of the things we did during the remodel, was remove all the beadboard. You know what a wall looks like without beadboard? Really very big and bare. I don’t want you to hurt yourself trying to imagine this so here is a picture so you can get the full layout.
Pretty awful isn’t it?
But God is good and so are my friends, because the wall is finished and just like God said on the seventh day after he made Channing Tatum: “It is good.” (Or at least that is how I imagine it went.) A week ago it was still a wreck, so I called in The Fixers. This is a top-notch group of girlfriends who have better taste than I do. (Note: If you are one of my local girlfriends and you were not called to help with this project, consider yourself as awful at decorating as I am. I’m sorry no one has told you until now.) My girlfriend Erin was the first one to come over and say, “No. What you have going on here is not working. It is hurting my eyes. Thank God you are good at…..” Of course she never finished that sentence so that was a little hurtful. She told me where to put things and where to hang things and I decided right than that it helps to have friends who are not only good at decorating, but are also unafraid to be brutally honest. After Erin left I had some other friends come over to help me re-hang pictures and put the hutch in the proper place. You may be wondering what I did while this was going on. The answer? Sat on the couch and bossed people around. That’s probably what Erin was going to say I was good at! Duh!
Here we go…
I got the hutch from a place in Humble, Texas called Global Imports of Humble. You can find them on Facebook. There is not a single thing in their store that I do not love! The hutch has a lot of great storage, too. Right now it is the hiding spot for Rocco’s PlayStation. He thinks I gave it away two weeks ago, which is what I led him to believe, but really it’s hiding in the hutch cabinet. Fortnite, be damned!!!!
The vintage trays have been mine for years. I have wanted to use them but was never sure in what way. I’m happy with how they look in contrast to the modern color of the hutch.
The floating frames were purchased on Amazon. Every frame contains a picture of women I love in their kitchen. My mom, my Granny, David’s Grandmother. There they are in their favorite place of all – the kitchen. So yeah, this seemed fitting.
I’m not entirely sure how to decorate the top of it and find that I move different things there every few days, depending on my mood. And I’ve still not put a picture in the gold frame because my kids keep saying whoever ends up in the picture frame is my favorite; so I’m off to get a good picture of my dog printed out.
While we are in the kitchen, let me show you my new dining room chairs that I absolutely LOVE. I kept my table because I bought it years ago from Ballard Design and it is still as sturdy as the day I got it, so it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but I needed new chairs. I looked for months and could not find anything I liked – until my eyes landed on these babies.
I found them at The Nebraska Furniture Mart in Dallas – but you can also find them online. They are called the Roosevelt Side Chair in Chestnut. They are sturdy, but not so heavy they scratch up my floors. They have a bit of a weathered look that works well with the modern design and color. I’m really happy with them. Now, I just need a big, beautiful arrangement of color for my dining table.
Check back on Thursday for a couple of more pictures from the house. I hope that’s okay…just thought I’d show you two more areas that I am proud of how they turned out. Considering Y’ALL came up with them, it seems only right I show them to you!
P.S. I want to share a sneak peak with you about an upcoming movie that I know you are going to love.
No one wins alone. American Underdog - only in theaters Christmas Day.
Love it! How about a Family Picture in the Gold frame or a Picture of Yourself Cooking?
I love the new hutch. So pretty. I personally would not put as much stuff on top because I think it distracts from your wall arrangement and the new piece. But that’s me. Plus’s I wouldn’t want to clean all that stuff lol
