The Attorney General said I might as well invite you all over to the house since I’ve spent the last two Stretch Marks articles showing you all pictures and honestly, I could not think of a more exciting thing to do.
If y’all were to come over I would have eighteen gallons of tea to ensure that we never ran out, and I would make my mother’s famous chicken salad on fresh white bread. I would show you all the parts of my house that we still have to re-paint and I would ask for your opinions until you decided that I was essentially mooching free information off of you so that I wouldn’t have to pay a designer, and you would be exactly right.
I don’t have a picture of our before living area, but trust me, it has changed a lot. We went from really dark walls, bead board and 80’s faux texture – to this.
I’m proud of how this wall turned out. The color on the walls all over the house is Dove White by Benjamin Moore; my friend Mary Jo told me I couldn’t go wrong with that color and now I know why she gets paid the big bucks. She was right!
I bought the Love One Another sign at a shop in Lufkin a few years ago but never put it up until now. My kids are getting no nicer towards one another and I’ve decided that now is the time that they see Jesus’ words on the wall of our home instead of me screaming it violently at them from down the hall. We shall see if this works. LOVE ONE ANOTHER, YOU BUNCH OF UNGRATEFUL KNUCKLEHEADS!!!!!
The family pics were taken by my cousin (and one of my besties) Kylie White. And then I had them printed out and framed by a family run business in East Texas called Smallwoods. I adore this company and have their prints all over my house. Check them out online! They come with beautiful, rustic frames, a super quick turn-around and their prices are amazing!
They also printed out these three prints that I hung in the entryway. I love them! (Also, wallpaper will go on this wall…eventually...when David lets me start spending money again.)
The last little piece of the house I’m proud of is the hallway. I knew I wanted something a little fun and a little funky at the end of the hall. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea – but then again, neither am I. My Aunt Melba said she hated it and that it was gaudy, but in our family, if Aunt Melba hates it – we know we’ve done something right!
The paint color is called Cheating Heart from Benjamin Moore, it is also the color we had painted over our fireplace brick. My mirror is asked about alllll the time. It’s called a Bikarsoul Irregular Wall Mirror and I got it on Amazon. It comes in different sizes and it is very heavy; I am wild about it.
The shelf is on Amazon as well and is called the Live Edge Rustic Solid Wood Shelf. I wish I would’ve gotten a size larger because I had no idea the mirror would swallow it up like that, but David says unless I am willing to pander my body on the street corner that I’m not getting a new shelf any time soon.
I’d like some kind of wicker basket under the shelf that I can hide blankets in, but I have yet to find one I want, so if you know of any – holler at your girl. And lastly, the gold decals were purchased on Kenna Sato Designs on Etsy. They are awesome and removable and I totally dig them. They are just a splash of my personality thrown in there!
They say there are no rules in decorating anymore and I am starting to believe them. If I see something I like, I grab it! I don’t worry about rules or colors or themes. Yuck! I care about what makes me happy, what feels lived in and comfortable to my family. What makes my kids want to have their friends over. I buy pieces that dogs can sleep on, teenagers can eat on and David and I can Netflix binge on. And you know what? It’s working for me! So you do you, boo!
Thanks for letting me show you all around.
Love,
Melissa
I got this for blankets and it’s perfect. I usually find fun baskets at Home Goods.
Your house is beautiful! I’m glad you lightened up the living area. I picture it with dark walls 🧟♀️🧟🧟♂️ If you get my drift.. My house is Oregon Cowboy. So different from yours as to not even be on the same planet. Think beloved horses’ halter and bridle hanging on a hook Several cowboy hats and my silver spurs…But we all meet in the middle with our common woman-ness. I love and appreciate the women in my life. And the same goes for your emails!
Thx 🤠🤠🤠
