I want to tell you something about me that only those in my inner circle know. I don’t exactly flaunt it because it’s not something I am super proud of. But in the spirit of transparency, I want to be very honest with you. Are you ready?
If it was created for a teenager, it was created for me.
Why would I go watch a Clint Eastwood movie when I could watch Selena Gomez?
Why would I listen to Bruce Springsteen when I could have Olivia Rodrigo on repeat?
The Three Tenors are NOT a boy band. N*Sync is a boy band.
And when I refer to classic music I am not referring to Carly Simon, I am, of course, referring to Britney.
So this past week when Remi asked me to sit down and watch a new show that all of her friends were raving about, do you think I argued with her? Because no. I did not.
Luckily for her we were in quarantine, so what’s giving up 6 hours of your life when one day just bleeds into the next?? We then went to Hulu and turned on a new show called Cruel Summer. And then I don’t remember what happened after that because I. was. hooked.
I’m not sure what you are currently binging but if you are looking for something new and addictive then you have to check out Cruel Summer on Hulu. Here is the show in a nutshell: A beautiful, adored, teen girl goes missing in a small Texas town in the summer of 94. During this time another teen girl seems to completely take over the missing girls life. The story is told over the course of three back-to-back summers. Who is involved? Who is to blame? And where has Kate Wallis gone?
Some of you are laughing at me right now. That’s okay. I’ll take it. Keep in mind that this is who I am. Okay? I hate Yellowstone because it’s all adulty with it’s super dramatic themes and heavy drinking. So exccccuuuuuuse me if a little teen drama cures what ails me. But it does. LET ME BE! But the other thing I love about Cruel Summer is that I get to watch it with Remi. And do you know how often that happens anymore? Hardly ever. Rarely is a show clean enough to watch with my 15 year old that isn’t a cartoon. But this show has it all. It’s a thriller, it’s a mystery, it has adult themes (but not overly so) and she gets to laugh at the way we wore our hair in the 90’s. See? Everybody’s happy!
So if you’re looking for something clean – but good – that you can watch with your teen or your little sister, then look no further. Or, if like me, you like a good teen drama then this is the show you’ve been searching for. And I am happy as heck to bring it to you.
Check it out and let me know what you think!
Happy binging!
Melissa
Cruel Summer
My sister (40) and I (51) are completely obsessed with this show! That last episode had me completely GOBSMACKED!
I watch teeny bopper shows too! I have watched Dawson’s Creek so many times I can recite it by heart! One Tree Hill, The OC, and soon Cruel Summer. But….I do love me some Yellowstone! I kind of like it all! Gilmore Girls? We watch it every single day! So you are not alone by a long shot!
