I was watching a movie the other day, and one of the characters was called Bad News McCleary. They called him that because he had been their neighbor for 30 years and had yet to bring them good news.
“Your gate was left open.”
“That storm knocked your tree down.”
“Your horse got loose.”
“Your dog bit my daughter.”
You name it, it was bad. And he was constantly the one delivering it.
Don’t you just LOVE those kinds of people? (Said no one, ever.)
Look, the last thing I want to be today is Bad News McCleary, but I do have something pretty negative to tell you.
What you’ve been doing to lose weight, get healthy, and enjoy your life ISN’T WORKING.
I can’t tell you how many forums I am on, from Facebook to community pages, where over and over and over again I see things like this...
• “What am I doing wrong? The scale hasn’t moved!”
• “Does anyone get their steps in every day and still see zero difference on the scale?”
• “Does keto work for everyone but me?”
• “What’s wrong with me??”
Look, I know I’m not Dr. Phil, and I sure as heck am not Dr. Oz. I know I don’t have all the answers. And goodness knows I’ve asked these exact questions myself a time or twenty.
But maybe what we really hate is that the problem is something we can’t see. Maybe it’s inside us. Maybe it’s about a mind-shift, and that BLOWS CHUNKS, because our gym offers Zumba and step aerobics and yoga for beginners - but it does not offer mind-shift classes!
Maybe it takes Bad News McCleary to drive up, roll down his window, and say, “The problem ain’t the scale. It’s the person on it.”
I’m with you. I’ve done everything I know to do. All that’s left for me to try is this: I want to return to the One who made me. The One who formed me in my mother’s womb and knows the number of hairs on my head. And I want to ask Him what the freakin’ problem is, because He knows. Whether I want to believe that or not, He knows!
Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know...”
Quit running.
Quit strength training.
Quit counting macros.
Quit planning the weight loss surgery.
All of those things are AWESOME.
But for just a moment....BE. STILL.
I want you to join me on this Free 5 Day Inside Out Challenge, not because I have all the answers, but because, like you, I’m searching for them. And instead of doing it myself until I run ragged, I’m just going to do the very thing I hate: I’m going to Be Really Still.
